The former BBC 1 405-line and FM radio transmitting aerials at Cambridge, were located on top of holder No. 1, at the Newmarket Road gas works. 405-line BBC 1 TV and BBC National FM radio entered service on 7-Mar-1966. TV transmissions were on VHF ch2 and were fed via a 7 GHz link from Peterborough. FM radio transmitted on 88.9 / 91.1 / 93.3. TV transmissions ceased on 8-Oct-1982. BBC National FM radio transmissions were relocated to Cambridge (Madingley) on 12-Aug-1983. |
The SHF receive antenna is clearly visible on the left side of the gas holder. The other aerials are not so clear to see. |
