Comments: Lydgate is a relay of Emley Moor (via Cornholme). Pre B700 allocations: 23/26/29.

Hide historic services

The Lydgate relay serves a very small area between Todmorden and Cornholme in upper Calderdale, West Yorkshire. It was quite difficult to find as the grid reference I had appeared to be incorrect, actually referencing the site of a recently demolished factory. In fact the relay was originally sited at the Volex Wiring Systems mill which now appears to have been demolished. The site is now rather higher up which allows it to receive its feed from Cornholm.

The site was featured on BBC Watchdog on 21st December 2000. The original site was dismantled due to vandalism, and a problem with the electricity supply? The transmitter was out of action for about eight months. See the "Trouble at t'Mill" feature linked at the foot of this page. The original mill rooftop Lydgate site entered service in 1993 and closed on 11th April 2000. A temporary site operated from 14th December 2000 until this permanent replacement entered service on 29th May 2002.

Photo 1 shows the mast and photo 2 shows the receive and broadcast aerials a little more closely, the receiving aerial being the higher of the two.

Receive is the upper aerial. Transmit the lower.
