The origin of the first two photos is unknown. Mervyn reports on his visit as follows: "Woodcombe is a suburb of Minehead. I walked up the lane into a farmyard before I realised the mast was the other side of the hedge. The pole stands on its own in the middle of a field, there is no fencing or anything, the receiving aerial is barely a couple of metres agl, you can virtually reach up and touch it. The equipment cabin seemed to be some distance away on the other side of the hedge in the farm yard but I didn't venture there."

Woodcombe was a BBC landlord site which entered service on 26-Apr-1985 to serve a population of about 600 people. The original analogue channel allocation was 21/27/24/31. This was changed in 1998 to 57/63/53/60 as consequence of changes to the channel line-up at nearby Carhampton, which in turn were a consequence of interim DTT channel allocations at Wenvoe. The ERP at Woodcombe was also increased from 6.3W to 50W.
