Haverfordwest September 1979

Horizontally polarised FM antenna in a photograph taken in September 1979. Haverfordwest broadcasts were at 10kW ERP on 89.3, 91.5, and 93.7 MHz.

At the same time it was presumably still transmitting television on Channel 4H at 10kW ERP, but there is no picture of the antenna in this set.

When these stations were built the BBC was the only broadcaster in the UK and the concept of buying from overseas was probably not even considered. Hence the equipment required was not available commercially and the BBC designed and constructed a lot of its own equipment. This FM channel combiner was probably built at the BBC Equipment Department. Note the resonators labelled with the programme "Light" and "Home" as well as the frequency MC/S (Megacycles per Second)
