THE TRANSMISSION GALLERY

SUNLEY BUILDING / PICCADILLY PLAZA

Photos by Phil Edmonds Page last updated: 2016-12-30

Photos 2013

As part of the refurbishment of the Sunley Tower, following its purchase by Bruntwood and renaming as 'City Tower', the roof top area was remodelled.

The most notable change was the larger tower structure housing the broadcast antenna. My best guess is that this was installed around 2006/7, although I do not have an exact date.

These photographs were taken in May 2013.

View from south west of the building.

View from south of the building.

East side of building.

North View

General view of City Tower from adjoining Piccadilly Gardens.

Another view from South West of the the site, showing the relative locations of 'City Tower', formerly Sunley Tower and the very recently renamed 'Manchester One', formally Portland Tower.

Manchester One/Portland Tower is the transmitter location for Gaydio and Unity Radio services. You can just about make out their antenna array on the roof in this picture.

Despite the impression from the angle of this photograph City Tower is around 50 meters taller than Manchester One.

Finally another general view, this picture was taken in March 2010 showing that the new tower arrangement has been in place for some time.
