Hide historic services

The St Bees site is on a golf course, and these pictures were taken with golf balls whizzing past my ears!

The town is on a sheltered bay, and is screened from the nearby Whitehaven mast, and from Caldbeck/Sandale. Post-DSO St Bees site relays Caldbeck via Whitehaven. Where we parked, near to the St Bees mast but the other side of a hotel building, the best reception was from Northern Ireland and North Wales! We also had a signal on ch59 from the Republic. Manx Radio was the best FM signal.

St. Bees was originally an IBA landlord site which entered service in March 1981 to serve 960 people. Channel 4 was added in December 1984.
