Bill: "This is a little MF station transmitting something called 'Fresh' to the Yorkshire Dales. Fresh is also listed as having a number of other, lower power stations in the area all operating on either 1413 or 1431kHz. These are at Ben Rhydding, Giggleswick, Pateley Bridge, Richmond and Skipton"
Hawes entered service on 16 April 1997 at 1 kW. Skipton (1413 kHz 0.1 kW) apparently started the previous day. The other lower-powered sites were added a few years later. Subsequently Fresh re-arranged itself with various changes in ownership and coverage area and a move to FM from most sites. Hawes, however, continued on 963 kHz until a merger with Stray FM and the decision to cease AM transmissions
As of November 2015 the site is used by CR station Dales Radio, still on 936 kHz but at the reduced power of 150 W |
