PORTH
Photos by Anthony Salmon, Robert Whittaker and Wayne Brewer | Page last updated: 2024-09-06 |
Porth was originally a BBC landlord site which entered service with ITV on 27-Dec-1974 to serve 13,700 people. BBC 1 & 2 were added in June 1975. S4C was available from the 1-Nov-1982 launch. BBC FM radio was added on 18-Mar-1992 with Radio Wales added on 14-Dec-2001. Anthony Salmon: I took these photos in November 2006 - it was at 7.30 on a Sunday morning. As you can see it was a bit misty but hope they of use to you. |
Robert Whittaker took these photos of Porth from nearby Trebanog... |
But Wayne Brewer got closer. Access to the Porth Tx, he says, is along 2 miles of single track road with occasional passing places (there is no turning back) from Hopkinstown. |
The band II log on the left is the RBL receive aerial pointing at Wenvoe. The 4 element band II Yagi on the right was used to receive Radio Wales from Wenallt before this service was transferred to Wenvoe. |
