PORTH

Photos by Anthony Salmon, Robert Whittaker and Wayne Brewer Page last updated: 2024-09-06

Earlier pictures

Porth was originally a BBC landlord site which entered service with ITV on 27-Dec-1974 to serve 13,700 people. BBC 1 & 2 were added in June 1975. S4C was available from the 1-Nov-1982 launch. BBC FM radio was added on 18-Mar-1992 with Radio Wales added on 14-Dec-2001.

Anthony Salmon: I took these photos in November 2006 - it was at 7.30 on a Sunday morning. As you can see it was a bit misty but hope they of use to you.

Robert Whittaker took these photos of Porth from nearby Trebanog...

But Wayne Brewer got closer. Access to the Porth Tx, he says, is along 2 miles of single track road with occasional passing places (there is no turning back) from Hopkinstown.

The band II log on the left is the RBL receive aerial pointing at Wenvoe. The 4 element band II Yagi on the right was used to receive Radio Wales from Wenallt before this service was transferred to Wenvoe.
