THE TRANSMISSION GALLERY

FERN BARROW (BOURNEMOUTH MF)

Photos by Martin Brown Page last updated: 2018-05-23

May 2018

Fern Barrow is situated on a heath about 1.5 miles northwest of central Bournemouth. The vegetation has grown considerably around the site and I was unable to find a view of the feed point. The aerial is formed by the wires suspended between the two masts.

In this picture I have highlighted the active wires forming the aerial in red. Strictly speaking it is a form of T aerial, just the V shape widens the bandwidth. There are five services to transmit from this aerial with frequencies from 828 to 1359 kHz.

An insulator at the base of the west mast.

Two band II Yagis pointing towards Rowridge. Most likely for Radio Solent RBS.

A satellite dish just visible through the vegetation and fence.
