Evegate Channel Travel Radio Relay

Evegate was the second in a chain of three relay transmitters for Channel Tunnel Radio. A long term RSL which operated from 1995 to 2000. The base transmitter was at Stone Farm and that gallery page has more about the history of this radio station. The first relay was at Sellinge, then Evegate and finally Willesborough.

The Evegate relay is in the Ashford District. Ashford council proved less problematic with the planning applications. The receive pole is next to Station Road with the transmit pole 230m to the west. This site is 2.5km from the previous Sellinge relay.

Inside the receive cabinet. The large 2 pole filter is on the right. Following it is a 2 way splitter feeding the two pre-amplifiers on the left. Above that is the 2 way combiner and the AGC distribution unit at the top. A complete photo of the block diagram is in the Willesborough entry.

The transmitter or more correctly the amplifier rack. The Radio Authority Marconi 2965 test set is bottom right. The output filter is just visible in the right hand side of the rack. With the antenna gain, only a few watts of output would was needed.

It is just possible to see the system layout on the mimic panel of the transmitter from the previous photo. The two receive pre-amplifiers are on the left and two final amplifiers on the right.

And what is left of the receive cabinet.

What remains of the base of the transmit foundation.
