The name shmu FM derives from the historical use of the station's studio site - the Station House at Woodside. (The railway line remains in use but the station closed to passenger traffic in 1937.) The station has been on-air since October 2007. During three days spent in the area there was an eclectic mixture of output. shmuFM's transmit site is approximately 700 m east of BT Granite Hill which was the original site for ILR station Northsound and the highest point in the built-up area of Aberdeen. |
For a change we'll start at the studio site... |
...there's a Band I link it seems. The transmitter site is about 1 km away. |
Stewart Park Court is on the left, constructed in the late 1970s. Ofcom puts the site at 94 m and the antenna at 48 m above ground. |
The transmit antenna appears to be a JayBeam end-fed type mounted on a relatively long pole. The SHF link yagi is a bit of a mystery. |
