Elland is located on a ridge to the east of the town, just high enough to allow direct reception of Emley Moor which is relayed to the eastern part of the town. Most of Elland is covered by the Halifax relay, but the east of the town is shadowed from both Halifax and Emley Moor by the hills on either side of Calderdale. The transmitter has an excellent view of much of the Halifax area but is very low power to avoid interference to other relays in the area which share the same channel group, notably Ripponden and Wheatley; in addition, horizontal polarisation is used at Elland.
Elland was originally an NTL landlord site which entered service in the autumn of 1992. |
