Flint was one of three UHF relays built in the mid 1990's to provide BBC 1 Wales and S4C to areas on the Welsh side of the river Dee estuary, which otherwise enjoyed good reception of English programming from Winter Hill, but had poor reception offering Welsh programming from Moel-y-Parc. The other two sites were Bagillt and Holywell. All three sites closed at DSO in November 2009, being replaced by Storeton (Wales). The original channel allocation was BBC1 - 46, S4C - 53. These allocations were changed to BBC1 - 41, S4C - 44 on 11-Oct-2000 as a consequence of interim DTT equalisation at Winter Hill.
Bolingbroke is the highest of the 3 tower blocks in Flint, at 17 floors, whilst the other blocks Richard and Castle Heights stop at 14 floors. Each warden controlled building is access controlled by the residents.
Amusingly, the roof access door on Bolingbroke has a council sign stating "No Deck Chairs"! I wish I had got a picture of it now ! |
