WALSDEN

Photos by Lee Goulding Page last updated: 2023-09-17

March 2003

This relay serves most of Walsden village and the parts of Todmorden which the Todmorden relay cannot reach. These are mostly to the south and in the centre of the town.

Walsden was originally an IBA landlord site which entered service on the 7-Feb-1975 to serve 3500 people. This was as a relay of Winter Hill, via Todmorden, with site number 103.20. ITV at Todmorden, and consequently Walsden, were re-attributed to Emley Moor, via Cornholme, in 1982. Walsden was then given the site number 104.64. Channel 4 was added on 5-Jul-1985. The two BBC channels were re-attributed to Emley Moor on
1-May-2009, prior to DSO at Winter Hill. Both Todmorden and Walsden are in West Yorkshire.

The first photo shows the local landmark Stoodley Pike and also includes the Todmorden transmitter from which Walsden takes its feed. The resolution of the picture is too low to really make it out but if you look a little to the right of a vertical line drawn between the Pike and the white dot below it you can just about make out a mast shaped thing (!!)

I have no idea why 4 vertical log periodics and a trough are deemed necessary to receive
a feed from Todmorden which is about 3 miles away and totally without obstruction!
